Gracing the walls of Cheviot’s Knox Community Centre is a vibrant new mural, Our Place for Our People. Local artist Di Dixon was the driving force behind the project with other local artists Roy Mason and Denise Cleghorn working alongside her to achieve a collective artistic vision. ‘The mural also incorporated the school holiday programme with the kids coming along and painting the pohutukawa panel, which was loads of fun,’ she shares.
The idea became reality when the project was given a boost by the Creative Communities Scheme, which granted enough funding to buy the materials for the job. The long narrow design has been painted on to wooden panels, so as time passes, the panels can be removed and updated.
