WayWiser…where adventure finds you
Imagine going away for a holiday and being able to tap directly into the local scene for your favourite outdoor adventure sport. Instead of hours spent paging through brochures, scanning maps and searching the web, you can immediately choose from dozens of adventures led by locals taking you to interesting, off the beaten track locations across New Zealand.
WayWiser brings the adventure to you by helping you tap into the local knowledge about the best places to seek adventure in New Zealand, and then connect you to the people who can take you there. Dreamed up by four friends and launched in July 2016, WayWiser’s mission is to cut through the clutter and bring you a genuine adventure without the cost-prohibitive price tag.
When WayWiser co-founders, Brittany Jordt and Colin Frater, arrived in Auckland from the U.S. three years ago, they expected to get off the plane and immediately be surrounded by opportunities to get outdoors and experience what New Zealand is famous for… world-class hiking, kayaking and mountain biking. Instead, they were surrounded by brochures for expensive commercial tours, and spent hours searching for information online. Because they planned to make New Zealand their home, they bought a campervan and bikes, and set off each weekend in search of the best the North Island had to offer.
That frustrating experience convinced them of the need for WayWiser. After all, not everyone has months on end to search for adventures and make mistakes. All that was left was to convince two of their adventure-loving, software engineering friends to become their cofounders and learn how to code... and they were on their way!
When you jump onto WayWiser’s website you can search for adventures by type of sport, location and date.
You’ll instantly be able to see all the adventures that match your criteria, easily find out more about who’s hosting the trip, and read reviews from other users who have been out with them. You can also access more details about other adventurers who are attending, and what kind of trips they’ve gotten up to.
Not only that, but WayWiser’s skill matching technology makes it much easier to get out on adventures that are well-matched to your abilities, whether you are beginner, intermediate or advanced. If you don’t see a trip that suits your fancy, you can toss an idea for your dream adventure onto the “WayStation” and see if there are any takers from within their adventure community.
Now it’s possible to get off the tourist beaten track and find a real adventure in a matter of moments.
