In this issue of Library Life we hear from Te Paea Paringatai after one year in her role at the Library and Information Advisory Commission; Cameron Pierson reports back from #rails2019, where he won the best paper award; Richy Misilei, LIANZA 2019 Conference co-convenor, shares outcomes and the impact of #LIANZA19 conference with us; Manuhiri Huatahi delivers a powerful
Viewpoint column titled ‘The humility of a coloniser.’
We also chat with with Hannah Russell who, after almost 10 years on the LIANZA SLIS committee as Co-convenor, has stood down to focus on other work commitments; we farewell Brenda Chawner, who is retiring from VUW’S School of Information Management and we fondly remember Alastair Smith who recently passed away.
This month we share our second installment of our new regular column – Career Pathways. You can read about library professionals to find out how they got to where they are and any advice they have for students or new professionals. We talk with Adrienne Hannan, Children’s and Youth Services Coordinator at Wellington City Libraries who also works part-time as a Combat Medic!
I’d like to take a moment to give thanks to Nicole Thorburn, who researches and writes our History Corner column every issue. I learn something new every time, do have a read.
As a special end-of-year treat we publish two library poems from Jackson Nieuwland and Anne Buck. You might like to share these with your colleagues – as the year comes to an end, it’s a good time to stop and contemplate all the amazing things you and your workmates achieve day-today. You are seen, you are heard, you are appreciated!
I am really excited about this issue of Library Life, I hope you are too.
Noho ora mai, Helen Heath
