Ōmokoroa Women's Golf Easter Tournament

- By Sue Thomson

Drizzly rain didn't deter the annual Ōmokoroa Women's Golf Easter Tournament from going ahead. Forty-seven hardy souls as far afield as Ōpōtiki, Waihī and Auckland teed off with trust in the organising committee's words of ‘sunshine is not far away!’ Thankfully the words were correct and the umbrellas and wet weather clothing were soon dispensed with as the day brightened and the course dried out.

This annual tournament is renowned for its fun and inclusive atmosphere and this year didn't disappoint. The

Easter Bunny Fairy, aka Diane Hughes, the women's club captain and her trusty fairy helper Rod Murray were heartily welcomed by each group as they delivered sustenance of Easter eggs and the odd shot of sherry. For some, the golf improved and the eventual Best Gross winner was Ōmokoroa's Celia Crawshaw. Celia received the Joan Jackson Memorial Trophy. It must have been Celia's day as she also took home first prize in the raffle.

This Easter Tournament is sponsored by Annabel Reyes of Tall Poppy Real Estate for which Ōmokoroa Women's Golf is most grateful.
