WESTERN BAY OF PLENTY DISTRICT COUNCIL – KATIKATI-WAIHĪ BEACH WARD

-

MRodney Joyce – y principal place of residence is in the Katikati-Waihī Beach Ward area. I am also standing for Mayor.

Are you sick of seeing already very high rates rising ever higher? Western Bay residents face further rates hikes over the next few years and a tripling of council debt to unprecedented levels. Increasingly, our rates will be sucked dry to service that debt - which the council has no plans in place to repay.

If elected, I will be a solid advocate for lower rates and sensible spending by the council. I pledge transparency and open communication. We must break down the high walls around the council's decision-making.

I live in Katikati, where I run a thriving wholesale business after returning home six years ago from working around the world. My young family loves living in the Western Bay with our wonderful communities, beaches, parks and bush. We must protect what we have.

My principal place of residence is in the Katikati-Waihī Beach Ward area. Kia ora, I am married with two school aged children and have a keen interest in our local communities, schools and service infrastructure in the Western BOP. I live rurally on an avocado orchard in Aongatete.

I volunteer for Tauranga based charity Kura Kai, working alongside Katikati college producing meals and sourcing funding for those in need in the wider Katikati community. Addressing poverty in our communities and supporting families so that our tamariki grow up healthy, safe & happy is very important to me.

After originally qualifying as a teacher, I taught & worked in the animal welfare & Not for Profit sector in both service & management roles. For 5 years I have operated my own small business alongside orchard responsibilities I have served on a number of boards + advisory committees. I believe I have the capability to represent the views of WBOP residents to Council and ensure democratic decision making occurs in the best interests of the public.

My principal place of residence is in the Katikati-Waihī Beach Ward area.

Having been elected as a councillor in the by-election, I now ask for your vote to continue to bring a strong voice of reason and balance to the representation and governance we need. The WBOPDC, and Katikati, Waihī Beach Ward deserve the best people for the job and I believe I am one of those people.

I support a firmer hand on our spending and the Katikati bypass,

I do not agree with the proposed “Three Waters” scheme, other options must be available.

My work ethic and understanding of issues before us now and looming will be a challenge for many who don’t have my experience.

My wife and I run an import, wholesale business from Athenree. Prior to living in the district I have owned, managed and held executive positions in businesses across various industries.

I am also involved at governance and grass roots level for many community organisations.

MY VALUES. I’m passionate about democracy and the public voice. I value honesty. Candor. Accountability. My intention is to make a positive difference. MY CREDIBILITY. Half my working life was corporate, in employee, management and leadership roles. In the other half, successful self-employment saw my wife and I win several business awards.

As Toastmasters NZ District Governor, I led NZ to rank 4th of 75 Districts worldwide, something not equalled in the 24 years since.

I'm an amputee. My children and grandchildren are Ngāti Maniapoto. My wife Sheila and I live in Katikati by choice, in our post-career years.

I chair my local Body Corporate and local Social Club, and I'm am amputee Peer Support volunteer.

MY “HOT BUTTONS”. I will pursue: prudent fiscal management; an end to centralised ownership and/or control of local government interests, including 3 waters infrastructure; and truly democratic process.
