WESTERN BAY OF PLENTY DISTRICT COUNCIL – ŌMOKOROA COMMUNITY BOARD
Ej Weller
M y principal place of residence is in the Ōmokoroa Community Board area.
I’ve been a proud member of Ōmokoroa Community for seven years. I have a background in secondary teaching, most recently at Katikati College. I live with my husband Kevin and our two sons, and I’ve been the primary caregiver since our eldest was born in 2017. Since that time I’ve been heavily involved with Ōmokoroa Playcentre, including employment in the babies’ programme, Space. I joined the Ōmokoroa Point School PTA in 2022. Through the Space programme I have met dozens of families with new babies, all with the same need for community and a supportive network. If elected, I will work to ensure that Ōmokoroa families and young people have a community in which they feel welcomed and supported.

For almost five years I have held the position of Chair of Ōmokoroa Point School. In that role I have enjoyed contributing to the success of our school through my leadership skills, strategic thinking and passion for achieving great outcomes for our school community. I will bring these same attributes to the Community Board, enhancing the success of the broader community as we face the challenges ahead.
Beyond the school, I’m a keen participant in community organisations. With children aged 10 and 12, I have an interest in developing neighbourhoods where children can enjoy the same lifestyle that we enjoyed growing up in New Zealand. Previously, I held a senior public service role in Wellington, developing contracting strategies, writing policies and reviewing funding systems. I now work alongside schools, designing and administering school bus networks around New Zealand.
My principal place of residence is in the Ōmokoroa ward.

Ōmokoroa has been our families’ home for the past 14 years. It is without doubt the best place we have ever lived; it is the place we chose to raise our family. I have served on the Ōmokoroa Point School Board of Trustees followed by 2 terms on the Ōmokoroa Community Board. I have always sought to give back to the community on the peninsular through a desire to see it continue to thrive counterbalanced by a good dose of ‘oldschool’ values.
Ōmokoroa is predominantly safe, is largely a connected community, surrounded by a great mix of amenities both natural and man-made. For some in our community recent urban development has placed in jeopardy the aformentioned-old school values, hence my usage of adverbs such as predominantly or largely.
I want to continue to serve our community, to ensure we protect and maintain those values that drew us all to the peninsular, so I ask you for your vote, for your trust so that we can continue to maintain Ōmokoroa as the best place to live.

I came to New Zealand around 30 years ago, from that time I have seen the country develop in good ways and some not so good. I have extensive business and community leadership experience in Tauranga, and I would like to help Ōmokoroa by giving them my dedication and willingness to listen and bring ideas forward to the community board. Over the years, I have built strong relationships in the Ōmokoroa community including membership of the Ōmokoroa Ratepayers Association and being elected on the community board will enable me to work for the community to support greater democracy, unity and a sense of community.
Matters that I will champion as a community board member are: Supporting a thriving business community; Addressing safety concerns to support a healthier, safer community; Being a strong voice for the upgrading roading networks; Listening and advocating for the needs of the community.
