Proudly Avocado
Katikati staked its claim as the Avocado Capital of New Zealand back in 2018, and now the town is ramping up its avocado profile with the planned installation of a giant avocado sculpture and ten unique avo-chairs sited throughout the township. Katch Katikati, Katikati Open Air Art, and Katikati Rotary Club have combined forces on the project and are now looking to raise $160,000 for the installations. If you are keen to be involved, or to make a donation, call 549 5250 or call in to see the Katch Katikati team at The Arts Junction.
Professor Conrad Pilditch, Marine Science and Aquaculture at the University of Waikato, is visiting Katikati to present on Thursday 15th September at 7pm at The Arts Junction. He will be talking about seagrass (Zostera muelleri); and how sediment and seagrass don’t get on. Seagrass provides a habitat for multiple marine species, improves water clarity and sequesters carbons, but we’re losing it from our harbours. Can we fix it? Everyone is welcome to these very popular sessions.
