Dave Hume open season

- By Peter Allsop Facility Manager

The Dave Hume Heated Pools in Katikati have opened for a new season. The Trust’s learn-to-swim programme, called ‘Splash Swim School’, will be operating again.

To register for the programme, either complete the online form or collect a hardcopy form from the pool office. No other paid coaching will be permitted at the pool other than for your own family.

Aquarobics with Kim continues on Mondays and Wednesdays (910am)

Aquafit with Kate will be on Saturday mornings (9-10am).

During school terms, the pool will be open from 6am to 10am (Mon-Fri) for lane swimmers and walkers and from 3.15pm to 5.45pm for the general public.

On weekends, the open times are 11am to 5.45pm. However, the schools’ use of the pool, after the October holidays, means the times available for public use between 9am and 3pm (Mon-Fri) varies. Check the swim schedule at the pool or online for actual times.

When the main pool is being used by a school, the learners’ pool will only be available for the Splash Swim sessions.

For those with some form of disability, we have large steps we can put into the pool to help you into and out of the main pool. Just ask the staff to put them in for you, it’s no problem.

Both pools are heated (it’s tap water heated with the heat from a hot water bore), with the main pool at about 26 to 27 degrees. The small pool is generally between 33 and 34 degrees.

There is an electric BBQ that can be hired for $5. Contact the pool office to book it. It is ideal for birthday parties at the pool.

The pool is an excellent place for that picnic with a grass bank and trees and artificial shade and, of course, an inviting pool of water to play in.
