Jo’s sharing her passion for Christmas
Jo Haynes loves Christmas, and her Christmas barn is testimony to her passion.
Previously Jo and husband Warren lived in Palmerston North, and every September Jo emptied the house and put all their furniture into storage to install her Christmas cave. The couple had joined the Christmas Lights Spectacular and opened their home to the public.
“We even had sand on the dining room floor.”
Jo says she has always loved Christmas.
“It is a special time, but it’s not a nice time for everybody.”
The couple moved to a lifestyle block on Sangsters Rd and Jo’s stipulation was she had to continue with her Christmas barn. Her purpose-built Christmas barn was built and now it’s a permanent fixture.
“It comes alive at night and is super, super magical,” says Jo.
There’s much to see, it takes time, and she points to the pixies, which although not liked by everyone, Jo loves them, as well as the hedgehogs, owls and mice.
There are 18 themed bays and Jo is adding to her collections all the time.
There’s a traditional Christmas, and a beach theme from when the family had a Foxton bach, Kiwiana and woodlands and waterfalls.
Jo’s first Christmas decoration is a ceramic reindeer she made and painted, and there are family heirlooms.
