With the IDOP (International Day of the Older Person) day over and the Age Friendly Awards presented we can look back on what was a successful day, there may be a big change for next year’s Age Friendly Awards. The four people that were given the awards were well deserving, and a special congratulations to Don Robertson for being the overall winner.
Next month will be our final monthly get-together with our members, and Santa Claus as the guest speaker. There will also be High Tea for two at the Coachman Hotel as part of the raffle prize.
Grey Power National has been very busy advocating to the Government on behalf of older people, particularly in the areas of housing, transportation, health and safety. To mention a few of the areas that the national body is regularly talking to Ministers about.
Zone four (our Zone) is going from strength to strength with the branches being re-established as well as new branches looking at establishing within our area. All the branches within Zone four are working extremely closely together and are assisting each another.
Here in Palmerston North on the Manawatu our Branch has been strengthened since our AGM with a new Treasurer, a new Secretary as well as new members that have been added to our committee. I believe we as a branch are very lucky to have so many willing people to volunteer to be on our committee. I am looking forward to a really fruitful year next year for our Branch.
