It takes a village to feed a family, and that's what the Middle Districts Lions Club has been doing for the past 27 years.

On Saturday November 24 the MD Lions Club, Methodist Social Services, Salvation Army and NZME will be out in force with other groups, on the Palmerston North streets in the annual Food Bank Drive.

The collectors will be starting the collection on your street at 4pm.

Last weekend the MD Lions Club members distributed bags supplied by Broadway Radiology for your donated food items.

Member Phil Belk says if you do not receive a bag, any bag will do, and if you miss the collectors on November 24, please drop your food items to the Salvation Army on Church St.

MD Lions Club president Dave Heald says non perishable items are preferred because they have a shelf life, but “other than that anything goes”.

“We get toiletries too, but if fruit and veges and bread come in, we can soon find a home.”

Preparing for the Food Bank drive are Middle Districts Lions Club members, Phil Belk, president Dave Heald, Methodist Social Services general manager Kim Penny, Kevin Kelliher, Don Brown, Warren Rickard and Salvation Army community ministry’s manager Rik Tetau.
