Application to replace Gorge road lodged
Palmerston North City Council has received an application from the NZ Transport Agency to replace the old Gorge Rd.
The new 11.5km State Highway 3 connection between Ashhurst and Woodville will replace the old Gorge Rd, which will be known as Te Ahu a
Tu¯ ranga, Manawatu¯ -Tararua Highway.
The application covers land in three council regions — Palmerston North City Council Tararua District Council and Manawatu¯ District Council.
The city council is managing the application on behalf of all three councils.
More than 2600 letters were sent out last week to residents around the proposed road location stretching across the Ruahine Ranges from Ashhurst to Woodville.
Submissions are invited from residents and others who may be affected, to 4pm December 13.
An application hearing is likely to be scheduled in the first quarter of 2019.
