Ap­pli­ca­tion to re­place Gorge road lodged

Palmer­ston North City Coun­cil has re­ceived an ap­pli­ca­tion from the NZ Trans­port Agency to re­place the old Gorge Rd.

The new 11.5km State High­way 3 con­nec­tion be­tween Ash­hurst and Woodville will re­place the old Gorge Rd, which will be known as Te Ahu a

Tu¯ ranga, Manawatu¯ -Tararua High­way.

The ap­pli­ca­tion cov­ers land in three coun­cil re­gions — Palmer­ston North City Coun­cil Tararua District Coun­cil and Manawatu¯ District Coun­cil.

The city coun­cil is man­ag­ing the ap­pli­ca­tion on be­half of all three coun­cils.

More than 2600 let­ters were sent out last week to res­i­dents around the pro­posed road lo­ca­tion stretch­ing across the Ruahine Ranges from Ash­hurst to Woodville.

Sub­mis­sions are in­vited from res­i­dents and oth­ers who may be af­fected, to 4pm De­cem­ber 13.

An ap­pli­ca­tion hear­ing is likely to be sched­uled in the first quar­ter of 2019.
