School holidays are fun
There’s just a week of school left before the holidays are here — and not just any holidays. These ones are three times longer than all the others.
Te Manawa knows that not everyone goes away over summer, so families will need a museum holiday programme that’s jam-packed with activities, programmes, and maybe a little learning along the way.
The fun begins on Tuesday December 17. Visitors will be familiar with Weekend Discovery Time. The Learning team has decided to make it an all-weeklong thing, turning it into Christmas Discovery Time. From 10am to 3pm, visitors of all ages can join in with Christmas-themed activities, upstairs in the Wilkins Theatrette. Make cards for the family or decorations for the tree . . . and it’s rumoured that there might even be a bit of Christmas karaoke.
Wilkins theatrette is next to Santa’s Cave too, so if anyone needs a break or some inspiration, the man in red and all the wonderful displays surrounding him will be right there.
Christmas Discovery Time runs until Friday December 21.
From January 8, also a Tuesday, the Learning team will be running daily art, science or technology sessions, where visitors can get hands on with programmable robots, or try a science experiment, or learn a new artistic technique.
All of these activities are free, suitable for all ages, and require no booking. Keep an eye on the Te Manawa Facebook page to learn more about what’s coming up.
There’s so much to do at Christmas Discovery Time.
