Handmade decoration­s or parcel labels can be made from salt dough. This is afunp roject for the childr en a s well. To make, combine 4 cups all-purpose flour ,1cup salt, and 1 1/2 cups of warm water inami xing bowl.

Knead until the dough is firm and smooth. Roll out dough and cut desired shapes (us ea straw to poke a hole for hanging). Bake at 300°F until dry, approximat­ely 1 hour; cool completely.

Wooden pallets can be recycled to make a great wooden outside Christmas tree which the children will just love to paint and decorate.

Your local thrift shop probably ha ss ome old saltshaker­s ,g roup them together, add some salt and go through your drawers or even your box ofb roken decoration­s and find small Christmas items that will fit inside the shakers… you may even have some cake decoration­s that y ou a r eno longer using. They make a great display.

Bird no longer around, spare birdcage, decorate it and hang on your porch, will look great filled with something Christmas themed.

I know we all struggle for that bit of spare time, but even if you manage to make one homemade decoration fo ry our home this Christmas ,Iam sure it will be appreciate­d b yy our family, and you will feel so pleased with yourself.
