Bathroom made ‘sick studio’ by child abuser

- Fairfax NZ

The abuser of a 5-yearold girl set up cameras in the bathroom of the home of the victim to film the abuse.

The mother of the Wairarapa girl told the Wellington District Court yesterday that it haunted her to think her child could be exploited on film.

‘‘He turned our bathroom into his sick studio,’’ she said of Darron John Fisher, 49, who pleaded guilty to 37 charges of sexual violation, sexual conduction with a child, making and possessing objectionable material and indecent assault.

‘‘He groomed our family in a cold and callous way for his sick fantasy,’’ she said in her victim impact statement.

Fisher had been babysitting the two children. He began touching the girl in the garage and then in the bathroom. Her older brother came in and saw some of the abuse.

Fisher had been sentenced to 16 months jail last year on two charges of doing an indecent act on the same child.

Later, more offending came to light including the filming and that Fisher had 600 images of child abuse on his computer, which lead to more charges being laid.

At the same time he was charged with offending in 2004 and 2008 over touching another child.

Judge Ian Mill jailed Fisher for nine years and six months, adding it to the 16 months sentence for a total of 10 years and 10 months imprisonment. He also ordered that Fisher serve a minimum non-parole period of half.
