Thousands raised for brain tumour nurse

-

know some of the people who had come to the dinner.

‘‘Maybe half the people I recognise.’’

She has had three treatments out of the 10 she needs. All up it will cost about $80,000.All proceeds from the dinner, raffles and an auction on the night will help fund her last chance for treatment. She has a Givealittle page which has raised about $40,000.

Close friend Jenny Huzziff was a key organiser of the fundraiser and said it was the least they could do.

The pair met during antenatal classes four years ago and their eldest children were good friends.

She said the support for the evening had been huge.

‘‘The people that have come forward, sponsors that we don’t know. It’s been amazing,’’ she said.

‘‘She is the strongest person I know,’’ she said of McNabb.

Huzziff came up with the idea with her mother-in-law, Michelle Huzziff, after taking McNabb out for lunch recently.

Once McNabb has spent $80,000 on ten treatments, the cost of further treatment drops to about $600 a fortnight, which she said would be affordable.

McNabb has a brain scan scheduled for Saturday to see what impact - if any, the Avastin was having on her tumor.

‘‘It will give us a little bit of an idea of where things are at.’’
