Blathwayt impresses in 1200m heat at Foxton
Blathwayt was among the more impressive of the open 1200m heat winners at the Foxton trials last week.
Having been off the scene since the New Zealand Cup last November Blathwayt has had to been patiently brought back to racing trim by part-owner and trainer Alby Macgregor.
Regular rider Jonathon Riddell was back reuniting with the horse in the trial and Blathwayt pleased both rider and trainer with his stylish two-and-half length victory.
Chasing him home were the lesser performed Estimate and Hutch.
Another stayer warming up for spring racing was Sampson, who scored in his 1200m trial by three lengths over Five To Midnight but could not bridge the gap in the straight.
The winners of the 1000m heats were Johnny Lincoln, Freddy Lad and Missy Moo each creating a big impression.
Abbey Road and Kairanga Lad were other winners at the trip.
