Final countdown begins in softball

The finalists have been found in the club softball competitio­n

In next week’s women’s finals Huia will play Bramac for first and second, and Linton will play Feilding for third and fourth.

In the men’s finals, Blue Sox will take on Linton for first and second, while Dodgers and Panthers fight it out for third and fourth.

In the men’s semifinals at Colquhoun Park on Saturday,

thrashed 8-0. Brian Tairoa and Grant Christian both scored automatic home runs. After a full seven innings,

and were tied 11-11, with the game going to a tie breaker.

Dodgers batted first and were able to bring one runner in, which proved to not be enough, as Linton batted in two runners to take the game 13-12.

In the third inning, Huia brought in one run to Feilding’s four, but it wasn’t enough, as Huia brought in another eight runs in the fourth inning, ending the game 19-7.

Rowena Cooper scored two home runs and Tristan Frizzel one.

17-8 in a brilliant semifinal, with both teams putting bat to ball.

Bramac got a great start, leading 6-3 after the first inning, including an-in-the-park home run from Mary Ireland, scoring herself plus two.

Linton responded scoring three runs in the third to Bramac’s two, but it wasn’t enough, as Bramac ran away with the game.

13-10. Linton got out to an 8-4 lead after the first inning and no runs were scored by either team until the fourth inning, when Linton got three more home.
