Jury finds four guilty

Jurors have reached unanimous verdicts against four defendants in the Dome Valley kidnapping case following a three-week trial at the High Court at Auckland.

Nicola Jones and Julie-ann Torrance were both found guilty of attempting to murder the victim. The 19-year-old was kidnapped by her former friends on two occasions in April and May last year. She was Tasered, assaulted with cricket equipment, sexually violated and her hair chopped off.

After the second attack, the bound woman was taken to Dome Valley, north of Auckland, where she was hit on the head with a hammer several times after efforts to choke and strangle her failed. She was left for dead on the roadside. The verdicts Nicola Jones: Guilty of threatening to kill, attempted murder, injuring with intent, and assault with a Taser. She earlier pleaded guilty to two charges of kidnapping, stealing a car, and three charges of assault with a weapon.

Julie-ann Torrance: Guilty of assault with a weapon, sexual violation and attempted murder. She earlier pleaded guilty to two charges of assault with a weapon, kidnapping, and injuring with intent.

Cameron Hakeke: Guilty of kidnapping and assault with a weapon. Michelle Blom: Guilty of kidnapping.

Wayne Blackett admitted charges of kidnapping and attempted murder at the beginning of the trial.

Jaclyn Keates earlier pleaded guilty to her role and is serving a jail term.
