Richards takes top gong at awards night

Tim Richards took top billing at the Manawatu Cricket Associatio­n awards.

The medium-pace all-rounder won the Mcvicar Cup for most meritoriou­s bowling for his 5-18 against Horowhenua-kapiti and was named the rep player of the year, winning the JD Fulton Trophy.

He also took Wanganui.

The Gallichan Cup for the most meritoriou­s innings went to Scott Davidson for scoring 101 not out against Horowhenua-kapiti.

It was one of only two centuries this season, with the other by Henry Collier against Taranaki. 5-74 against

CD batsman Mitch Renwick won the Oakley Cup for best fielder. Young batsman Mason Hughes won the Adrianne Stratford Memorial Cup for the most promising player.

Retiring batsman Luke Murray was also recognised in his final season with the rep team. Murray played 111 matches, scoring 3748 matches, 18 fifties, six hundreds, took five wickets and 48 catches.

In the club awards, the Justice and Edmonds Cup for the premier one batting award went to Marist’s Dave Meiring, who scored 441 runs at an average of 63.

In premier two, Old Boys allrounder Sam Kilmister won the Scorgie Shield, scoring 602 runs at 50.17 and Brandon Keenan from Wanderers was the top premier three batsman, scoring 490 runs at 54.44.

Marist all-rounder Connor Morriss was the top premier one bowler, winning the Taranto Shield, for taking 26 wickets at an average of 10.27 with his seamers.

Matthew Janes from Feilding took the Stewart Cup for the top premier two bowler, taking 32 wickets at 11.44 and in premier three Marist’s Michael Mackley was the top bowler, taking 21 wickets at 9.52.

The premier one all-rounder award went to Palmerston captain Rob Sheary, who scored 404 runs at 57.51 and took 11 wickets at 20.91.

The Twenty20 players of the year were Trent Mcgrath (Old Boys) in premier one and Steve Mattock (Manawatu-foxton) in premier three. The premier two Twenty20 competitio­n wasn’t played.

Mattock was also named the premier three MVP and the club player of the season. Kilmister was the premier two MVP and Morriss was the premier one MVP.

The Manawatu Cricket Umpires Associatio­n fair play award went to United batsman Robbie James.

The Ongley Cup for overall club supremacy went to United, who won the premier one Twenty20 and one-day titles. Marist won the premier one two-day title.

In premier two, Feilding won the one-day crown. In premier three, Wanderers won the one-day competitio­n Manawatu-foxton won the Twenty20 competitio­n.
