Olympic-quality time for Rasmussen

Mya Rasmussen picked up her second medal in the pool at the Youth Commonweal­th Games in the Bahamas knocking off a New Zealand record and setting at time which would have qualified her for the Rio Olympics.

The Palmerston North swimmer claimed gold in the 400m individual medley with a blazing 4:42.19, crushing her nearest opponent by 4.5 seconds.

Rasmussen knocked 21.5 seconds off her personal best with the swim.

The gold medal performanc­e followed her winning silver in the 200m backstroke on Thursday.

Rasmussen still has the 200m individual medley, 100m breaststro­ke and 200m butterfly to come.

Taihape-born Laticia Transom added two more medals to her gold in the 200m freestyle on Thursday.

She picked up silver in the 100m freestyle setting with a time of 56.59.

Transom was also part of the mixed 4x200m freestyle relay team who won gold.

She was joined by Chelsey Edwards, Lewis Clareburt and Zac Reid.

Transom’s remaining races are the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100 medley relay to come.

Otherwise in the pool, Finn Kennard-campbell picked up a gold in the 50m backstroke and the Clareburt won gold in the boys’ 400m individual medley.
