How much for the X-class?
Mercedes-benz has announced New Zealand pricing for the forthcoming X-class pickup truck, ahead of its launch in April 2018.
The X-class will be available in 13 different variants powered by a 2.3-litre turbo-diesel engine in two states of tune: with a single turbo in the X220d it makes 120kw, while the twin-turbo X250d reaches ‘‘no less than’’ 140kw.
The X220d comes in rear-drive or selectable 4WD, but is limited to a sixspeed manual transmission. The X250d is exclusively specified with 4WD and also has the option of a seven-speed automatic.
The truck will come in three grades: the workhorse Pure, Progressive with more comfort and quality, or the highend Power which is aimed at lifestyle and urban users. Ground clearance is 222mm across the range.
The four-cylinder launch models use Mercedes-tweaked versions of Renaultnissan powertrains, but from mid-2018 there will also be a new flagship X-class with a Mercedes-benz 190kw/550nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel.
It will have permanent 4WD and a different (Mercedes-sourced, in other words) seven-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. The V6 will also have Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR) as standard.
Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist are fitted across the range.
The Pure and Progressive have a reversing camera, while Power offers a 360-degree view.
The Pure wears black bumpers front and rear, rides on 17-inch steel wheels with tyre pressure monitoring and has plastic floor covering.
It still gets a seven-inch infotainment screen and the Mercedesbenz Touchpad.
Progressive adds painted bumpers, alloy wheels (same size as Pure), power mirrors, heat-insulated windscreen, automatic wipers, sat-nav and leather steering wheel. Oh, and carpet on the floors.
In true Mercedes-benz passengercar style, there a number of option packages for Progressive including Comfort, Style and Parking.
The flagship Power features chrome exterior elements, 18-inch wheels, LED lights front and rear, upgraded interior trim, digital audio system, Parktronic assistance, keyless entry/start and automatic climate control.
An optional Style package for Power adds an electrically operated rear screen, tinted windows, running boards, roof rails and 19-inch wheels.
