Baby traveller inspires global audience

- BETHANY REITSMA

One place Riki and Sonita Cribb will always remember from their travels is Zahara, a village in Andalusia, Spain.

‘‘We loved the sight of it so much that we decided to name our daughter Lilah Zahara Cribb.’’

The couple have been using Instagram for almost a year to document their experiences around the world. They enjoy using this platform to connect with other travellers and give their followers tips, including for travelling with young children.

When their daughter Lilah was born, Riki and Sonita Cribb didn’t think twice about continuing to travel as a family.

The couple, previously both teachers in Palmerston North, enjoy travelling as much as possible and weren’t about to stop even with a newborn to care for.

Baby Lilah was born in Saudi Arabia, visited 18 countries in her first 18 months and lives in South Korea.

Riki and Sonita Cribb started their own travel blog after seeing the efforts of others, writing about their favourite experiences, as well as tips for flying with a baby, packing, and planning an itinerary.

‘‘We were a little anxious boarding our first flight when she was 3 months old,’’ Riki Cribb said.

‘‘But that was quickly overtaken by the joy of travelling as a family.’’

The couple were amazed by the diversity of wildlife they got to see in places like Costa Rica.

‘‘One thing we didn’t think about beforehand was Lilah scaring off a lot of the wildlife with her excited little baby noises,’’ Riki Cribb said. ‘‘It was all part of the fun but the other tourists didn’t quite have the same perspective.

‘‘It’s amazing to see how many other people with babies and families are travelling the world,’’ Sonita Cribb said.
