Mistaken for deer
A hunter shot and killed on Easter Monday was likely mistaken for a deer, police say. Gordon Douglas Leech, 57, of Katikati, was hunting alone in the Kaimai Mamaku Ranges, near Te Aroha. Police are still deciding whether to lay charges. Police said Leech was shot by one of two men in another hunting party. Neither were known to Leech. The person who fired the shot had a firearms licence.
List of terrorists
The prime minister has added two international groups to the list of designated terrorist entities, taking the total number up to 20. An Indonesian-based group, Jamaah Anshrout Daulah (JAD) and a Philippines-based entity, Maute Group, are now designated terrorist entities under the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002, Jacinda Ardern said. ‘‘As a result of these designations, any assets the groups may have in New Zealand will be frozen. It will be a criminal offence to carry out property or financial transactions with them. Regardless of whether a group is designated a terrorist entity, fundraising for, recruiting, and harbouring terrorists are criminal offences in New Zealand.’’ The list: Al-aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades; Al-shabaab; Ansar Bayt almaqdis; Continuity Irish Republican Army; Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional; Euskadi Ta Askatasuna; Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia; Harakat-ul-jihad-al-islami, Bangladesh; Indian Mujahideen; Islamic Resistance; Izz al-din alqassam Brigades; Jaish Al-adl; Jamaah Anshrout Daulah; Maute Group; New People’s Army/ Communist Party of the Philippines; Palestinian Islamic Jihad; Partiya Karkeren Kurdistan; Real Irish Republican Army; Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/front; The Shining Path.
