Men’s premier grade heating up

White-knuckle contests are dominating the premier men’s grade as the business end of the season approaches.

This was exemplifie­d best in the game of the day last weekend between Blue Sox and Huia Chiefs. There was no score by either team for the first three innings. The Chiefs broke the deadlock in the fourth, but Blue Sox replied in kind for a 1-all score. In the fifth, Huia regained the ascendancy with two more runs, while the Blue Sox managed one, to trail 3-2.

In the seventh inning, Huia secured a little breathing space with another run, and the Blue Sox couldn’t muster a reply. The final score was Huia Chiefs 4, Blue Sox 2.

Elsewhere, the Raiders fought hard against Dodgers but fell away in the last couple of innings to go down 16-9. The Whanganui Braves had a bye.

The premier women’s grade produced some high-scoring games.

Bramac Metros hit four home runs to take their score to 14. The Rangitı¯kei Rebels had no answer and the game ended with Metros winning 14-4.

Huia Tigers were also strong with the bat, beating Taihape Major 18-3. SBC Feilding faced Blue Sox, which produced high-scoring game, with Feilding winning 14-4.

The game of the day for the women was Bramac Aces playing Linton Storm. Both teams remained scoreless until the fourth innings when Aces managed to score three runs. Storm were not to be outdone and scored one of their own. In the fifth inning Bramac scored again with no reply from Storm. In the end the Aces took out the game 6-2.

There’s been some great rivalry in the reserve men’s grade. Linton BBS against Huia Warriors was the game of the day with Huia Warriors winning 13-11.

Premier women: Bramac Metros 14, Rangitikei Rebels 4; Taihape Majors 3, Huia Tigers 18; Bramac Aces 6, Linton Storm 2; SBC Feilding 14, Blue Sox 4.

Reserve men: Levin United 1, Blue Sox Ballers 11; Linton BB’S 11, Huia Warriors 13; Blue Sox Hitters 14, Linton Mustangs 4; Bramac Cowboys 0, Wanganui Mustangs 7; Linton Mustangs 4, Wanganui Mustangs Black 11; Blue Sox Hitters 7, Raiders Rebels 0; Dodgers 12, Bramac Bombers 2.
