Hockey Manawatu¯ on hunt for new boss
Hockey Manawatu¯ is looking for a new operations manager following the departure of Kevin Nicholson.
Nicholson was in the job since the start of 2015 but has left to work as a branch manager at Westpac in Whanganui.
Hockey Manawatu¯ chairman Andrew Bethwaite said the departure was amicable.
‘‘He made it very fair for us,’’ Bethwaite said. ‘‘It’s just a new opportunity and time for a change.’’
Nicholson officially resigned two months ago but has been doing the job in a caretaker role since, while Hockey Manawatu¯ looked for someone else.
Bethwaite said the position had been advertised and the organisation wanted to make sure the right person was found.
‘‘We want to have someone in place for the new year. We’re looking at options because we want to carry on the good momentum Kevin has carried on the last few years.’’
Under Nicholson, the association last year won an award from Hockey New Zealand for the biggest participation growth in the country.
Bethwaite praised the work Nicholson had done through challenging times. ‘‘He certainly delivered what we wanted out of it. We were more than happy with the progress.’’
Nicholson could not be reached for comment.
Originally from Hawke’s Bay, Nicholson worked in Wellington for 20 years before moving to Manawatu¯ .
He was the director of sport at Hutt Valley High School for three years and before that worked in commercial business as a senior management trustee.
