Man dies after wire rope fails

Worksafe is urging workplaces to check handrail systems following a death in Wellington last week. A male worker died on Wednesday after falling from a vehicle transporter truck after a wire rope being used as a handrail ‘‘parted as he leaned against it’’. An initial examination found the wire rope was corroded at the point where it broke but it was unclear whether it had been damaged previously.
