❚ It’s good to see IKEA has managed to put together a business case to open stores in New Zealand, even without the instructio­n manual.

❚ I think Verity Johnson completely missed the point French author was making . . . and, for once, I agree with you regarding dating a certain 20-something.

❚ Who at the city council approved the payment of ratepayers’ money, $400,000, to Toyota for what? Please name the person. There are more than 40 potholes each side of Heretaunga St between Grey and Feathersto­n streets that have been getting worse through the neglect of the city council. Do not blame

the holidays for any inaction.

❚ Karl du Fresne (Jan 9) shines a light on how activist groups label people-organisati­ons to get their way. Think of our Tiriti o Waitangi (Ma¯ori)-led university and the Don Brash saga, plus our city council’s push to allocate seats on committees to unelected Ma¯ori as two prime examples.

❚ Pam (texts Jan 11): Please don’t panic. There are also many people in Manawatu¯ who wonder what planet you are on. I guess it’s a twoway street.
