Pressure on Tararua water
Tararua residents are being asked to conserve water to avoid further restrictions as the summer heats up.
The Tararua District Council has put water restrictions in place across the district, as the hot, dry weather continues and river levels get low.
Akitio and Norsewood are under a total hosing ban, so residents cannot use sprinklers, soak hoses, irrigation systems, or use hoses to water gardens or wash cars, houses or boats.
Meanwhile, alternate day restrictions are in place for Eketa¯huna, Woodville and Pahı¯atua. Soak hoses are banned at all times, but handheld hoses can be used between 7pm and 9pm on alternate days – houses with even street numbers on even days, and houses with odd street numbers on odd days.
A council spokesperson said if residents co-operate, further restrictions would be less likely.
