Anscombe out of Cup
Wales have suffered a major Rugby World Cup blow after first five-eighth Gareth Anscombe was ruled out of the tournament by the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered against England on Monday. Anscombe was helped from the field in the first half after injuring his knee during the 33-19 defeat at Twickenham, having just made a sensational break. Former England coach Sir Clive Woodward was among the many to pay tributes to Anscombe following the news. ‘‘Wow – this is devastating news for Wales and Gareth Anscombe and a real game changer for Wales – thoughts are really with him at this time,’’ he wrote on Twitter.
