Singh stays on bench
The wait for Sarpreet Singh to make his competitive debut for Bayern Munich will continue into the Bundesliga season. The Kiwi was an unused substitute in Bayern’s comprehensive 3-1 win over fourth-tier Energie Cottbus in the German Cup first round yesterday. Singh made six appearances during Bayern’s pre-season campaign and has trained almost exclusively with the first team squad since his arrival from Wellington Phoenix last month. Yesterday’s match presented a good chance for the four-cap New Zealand international to make his competitive debut given the strength of the opposition. However, the 20-year-old played no part as coach Niko Kovac named a near full-strength starting XI.
