Hard-fought win for Braves over Sentinels

The Whanganui Braves had battle hard to a 6-4 win over the Linton Sentinels in the latest round of club softball at Bill Brown Park.

The club competitio­n resumed at the weekend after the Kingswood tournament last weekend and play was rained off the week before.

Shaun Terry was on the mound for Whanganui and faced 30 batters, giving up four runs, one of those a home run by Linton’s Joe Totoro.

Totoro was Linton’s pitcher and gave away two home runs to Whanganui, one to Carl Priddle and one to Jamie Hollis.

Whanganui scored the two winning runs late in the game, one in the fourth inning and one in the seventh.

Blue Sox won 7-1 against Kingswood Devils in a seveninnin­gs game.

Bryan Taiaroa was pitching for Bluesox and Caleb White-hodge for Kingswood Devils.

Blue Sox’s runs came throughout the game and Kingswood Devils got their run in the first inning from Kalani Grant, with the run batted in going to Teao Mulligan.

The top batter was Liam Bassick from Blue Sox, batting two from four, picking up a walk and a home run for a batting average of .666.

Bryan Taiaroa faced 27 batters and only gave up the one run.

The Dodgers defaulted to the

Huia Chiefs.

In the women’s competitio­n,

Kingswood Anahera had a tight 11-10 win over Feilding United.

Young Jess Pfefferle was on pitching duty for Kingswood and she faced 37 batters, with Feilding’s Stacey Rohlof on the mound facing 38 batters.

This was a frustratin­gly good game for both teams. Runs were scattered through both sides going right to the seventh inning. The game took 129 minutes.

The top batter was Vanessa Miller from Feilding, batting three from four, with a batting average of .750.

Linton Storm won by default over Huia Tigers.

Wanganui Athletic came out on top 7-2 against Bramac Aces.

Wanganui Athletic scored most of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with Bramac scoring one run in the first inning and one in the sixth.

Bramac’s Mary Ireland was the top batter with three from three, giving her a batting average of 1.000.

Blue Sox pulled away late in their game against the Kingswood Angels for a 17-6 win.

This was a five-innings game, which was close until the top of the fifth inning when Blue Sox women ran away, scoring eight runs, which was too much for the Angels to pull back.

The top batter was Katrina Taiaroa who batted four from five, giving her a batting average of .800, including hitting a home run.

Nikki Tatana-tora also hit a home run.

In the men’s senior reserve competitio­n, the Castleclif­f Mustangs beat the Blue Sox Beavers 7-0, the Raiders Rebels won 16-4 over the Blue Sox Patriots, the Kingswood Demons beat the Huia Warriors 13-1 and Levin United beat Athletic 9-6. Palmerston North Dodgers had the bye.

In the men’s social competitio­n, the Bramac Bombers beat Huia 15-5 and Linton BBS beat the Cowboys 16-4. Feilding United had the bye.
