Manawatu¯ moves to open fire season
Manawatu¯, Rangitı¯kei and Palmerston North districts willmove to an open fire season on Monday, with the exception of beaches across the regions where open-air fireswill remain prohibited. An open fire season means people planning on lighting an open-air fire don’t need a permit prior to lighting. Principal rural fire officer Bradley Shanks said recent rainfall and cooler weather have helped to reduce the risk of a fire spreading around the Manawatu¯ and Rangitı¯kei districts. However, he encouraged people planning on lighting open-air fires to go online to checkitsalright.nz for further information and advice.
