Jones survives review
Coach Eddie Jones has retained the full support of his employers after a reviewof England’s fifthplace finish in the defence of their Six Nations title. Jones, who accepted a contract extension a year ago to the 2023 World Cup, was under pressure to hold his job after England were fifth in the tournament for the second time on his watch. Previously, England hadn’t fared so badly in the tournament since the mid-1980s. Just three months afterwinning the delayed 2020 championship, England lost to Scotland at Twickenham for the first time in 38 years, conceded 40 points for the first time towales in another defeat and fell to Ireland. The RFU decided to give ‘‘its full support and backing of Eddie Jones as head coach, while recognising a sub-optimal campaign and the factors that contributed to it.’’
