No new cases of Covid-19

- Melanie Earley

There were no new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation or the community yesterday.

On Thursday there were three new cases of the virus to report. Two of Thursday’s cases inmanaged isolation had travelled from India and Jordan via the United Arab Emirates.

The India case had flown prior to the Government placing a temporary ban on flights entering New Zealand from that country. They tested positive on day 17 in managed isolation, after it was determined they were a contact of a case diagnosed on April 7.

The Ministry of Health said it was still trying to determine where the third case had flown from. They also came via the United Arab Emirates.

Earlier this week, a border worker tested positive. The worker cleaned planes at Auckland International Airport. While they were infectious they worked three shifts at the airport.

The number of close contacts had now risen to 36, the ministry said, and all contacts had been contacted and were self-isolating.

Of the 36 contacts, 21 have so far returned negative tests, and the results for the others were still pending. The worker, who had received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, is now at the Auckland quarantine facility, Jet Park.

The next planned Covid-19 update from the ministry will happen at 1pm tomorrow.
