The concept: A world sailing league featuring eight teams contesting eight regattas.
The boats: F50 foiling 50-foot catamarans. They have been modified from the 2017 America’s Cup, now featuring more electronic input and a second, smaller wing sail, enabling them to sail in higher winds.
The format: Two days of fleet racing with the two-teams meeting in a match-race to decide each event. There’s a $US1M winnertakes-all prize for winning the final event.
The teams: New Zealand, Australia, USA, Great Britain, France, Spain, Japan, Denmark, featuring the world’s leading professional sailors in foiling.
The New Zealand squad: Peter Burling, Blair Tuke, Josh Junior, Andy Maloney, Marcus Hansen, Louis Sinclair, Erica Dawson, Liv Makay.
