Patrons can escape to French countryside at film festival

-

Patrons can now buy tickets to this year’s French Film Festival, that aims to showcase the delight and diversity of French cinema.

The festival features 21 hand-picked films from new releases to restorations of old classics.

The films will screen in 11 cities and towns spanning the North and South Islands over five weeks.

People in Palmerston North can watch the films at Event Cinemas from June 24 to July 7.

Festival director Fergus Grady says it has been working with the French Embassy to bring the great films to the French community and lovers of all things France. ‘‘We’re incredibly proud of our 2021 programme and can’t wait to share these fantastically French stories with New Zealand cinema-goers.’’

The film festival is celebrating its 15th year and is inviting people to come along for a glass of wine and to escape to the French countryside at the cinema.

‘‘We’re particularly excited to be able to include in our programme, Antoinette in the Ce´vennes, our opening night film for which lead actress Laure Calamy was named Best Actress at the 2021 Ce´sar Awards,’’ Grady said. The film Delicious is a stand-out film for everyone to drool over and The Man in the Hat is an almost entirely dialogue-free film that tributes French comedy master Jacques Tati.

The other films are; The Rose Maker, Perfumes, How to be a Goodwife, The Godmother, Only the Animals, Bye Bye Morons, De Gaulle, A Friendly Tale, Aline, The Wedding Speech, Miss, Skies of Lebanon, Night Shift, Breathless, The Big Hit, Appearances, Love Affair(s), and My Journey Through French Cinema.

People can buy tickets online.
