Car crashes into house

A car that crashed into a house has left one person hospitalised and contractors working to stabilise a gas leak. Whanganui firefighters were called to Portal St, between Toro St and Iwiroa Tce, just before 12pm yesterday after the vehicle crashed into the home, hitting the gas supply to the house, a police spokeswoman said. The person was taken to Whanganui Base Hospital with moderate injuries as firefighters protected the area, awaiting contractors to isolate a gas leak, the spokeswoman said. It appeared the driver had suffered a medical event.
