Pulse need new coach

Two-time defending ANZ Premiership netball champions the Central Pulse are on the lookout for a new coach, after parting ways with Gail Parata.

The one-test Silver Fern will leave the Wellington-based franchise after just one season at the helm, due to mutual agreement, the Pulse said yesterday.

Parata’s comments suggested frustration with the Pulse set-up, after they suffered their 10th loss of the season, 56-54 to the Northern Mystics on Sunday. ‘‘I am looking for an opportunity to build a programme from the ground up. The Pulse already have a programme in place they are comfortable with, and I need the challenge of developing and growing my own programme,’’ she said.

Parata succeeded Yvette Mccausland-durie who called time on her stint in Wellington after coaching the Pulse to back-toback titles in 2019 and 2020.

The Pulse were without key players Katrina Rore and Ameliaranne Ekenasio, both on maternity leave, and lost Karin Burger (Tactix) and Tiana Metuarau (Steel) to other teams.

They head into Saturday’s final regular season match against the Steel second-last on the ladder, with a 4-10 win-loss record and out of the playoff race.
