Outlook is optimistic

-

Even without Sarpreet Singh, the Olywhites squad is arguably the strongest New Zealand has sent to a men’s football tournament.

While other countries have failed to get over-age players – and even some under-age ones – released for the predominantly under-24 event, English Premier League star Chris Wood is on board, and with the likes of

Liberato Cacace, Clayton Lewis, and Michael Woud coming off strong club campaigns, hopes are high the team can secure a maiden Olympics win, and after that, a place in the knockout stages.

Limited preparation time – and in particular, a lack of match practice – will be their biggest concern.
