Dickson ruled out
The All Blacks Sevens have suffered a blow less than a week out from their first game at the Tokyo Olympics with Sam Dickson ruled out of the tournament. Dickson injured a hamstring during the team’s training in Townsville and it is bad enough to prevent him taking part at the Olympics. Dickson, 31, competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics and was in the NZ squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games squad in Glasgow. He will be replaced in the squad by Amanaki Nicole, who is one of the three travelling reserves to travel to Tokyo outside the 12-man squad, along with All Black Caleb Clarke.
■ Australian equestrian rider Jamie Kermond has been provisionally suspended on the eve of the Games for returning a positive drug test for cocaine. He faces a four-year ban from the sport. Kermond issued a statement yesterday admitting he had taken the drug.
