■ I would like to nominate Transmissi­on Gully for the ugliest highway award. It may be an engineerin­g marvel, but it is quite hideous. And wind signs would be good, except of course it would make those who approved the

wind safety assessment look bad. Take the scenic coast route for a pleasant trip instead.

■ Where did you spend the ‘‘good old days’’ R1100? It sounds nothing like the NZ I grew up in. PK

■ I remember Russian Jack visiting our farm in Taueru out of Masterton. He used to do a bit of work in our garden in exchange for his food and billy of tea. DMB

Waters proposal does not include sewage treatment, if so are we ratepayers still up for the $350-odd million cost of the required rebuild of our plant? Under a Three Waters regime treatment and management of wastewater would be the responsibi­lity of the new regional entity – Editor
