Sentenced for stabbing

A Countdown supermarket worker was celebrating her 50th birthday when shewas critically injured in a ‘‘frenzied’’, unprovoked attack by Luke James Lambert. The woman, who has name suppression, told her attacker she pitied him and forgave him, when he appeared for sentencing in the High Court at Dunedin yesterday. The woman had 30 minutes left of her shift before Lambert’s rampage began on May 10, last year. The 42-yearold entered a guilty plea on four charges of attempted murder at his last appearance. The charges carry amaximum penalty of 14 years’ jail. Four people – two men and two women – were injured in the attack.
