‘Whim’ nets man $13 million lotto win

An Auckland man who bought a Lotto ticket hoping to get a newcar ended up scooping a $13 million jackpot. The man said he bought the ticket and decided ‘‘on awhim’’ to making it a Triple Dip, so he could go in the drawto win a Range Rover. ‘‘I’ve beenwanting to buy a newcar for awhile and so I thought ‘why not, I’ll buy the dip’,’’ he said. The man said hewas enjoying amuesli breakfast on Sunday before logging into MyLotto to find that he had won. ‘‘I heard the winning noise play and I thought, ‘oh great, I might havewon a bonus ticket or something.’ ‘‘And then amessage popped up saying ‘significant winner’. ‘‘I looked, and at first it was just numbers. And then I thought, ‘wow, maybe I’ve won $13,000. And then I sawmillion!’’
