Minister asks for answers

Children’sMinister Kelvin Davis says he will investigate what could have been done to prevent the murder of Tauranga 5-year-old Malachi Subecz, who died in November last year following prolonged abuse.

Davis had personally moved to get information from Oranga Tamariki about what it did, or didn’t do, to keep Malachi safe. He expected the agency to brief him this week.

‘‘There has been some involvement of Oranga Tamariki. I want to get to the bottom of it and make sure we know what was done and what – if anything – could be done better,’’ he said. ‘‘My heart goes out to the young fella.’’
