Marcos family back on top
The namesake son of late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos appears to have been elected Philippine president by a landslide, in an astonishing reversal of the 1986 prodemocracy revolt that ousted his infamous father. FerdinandMarcos Jr had more than 30.5 million votes in the unofficial results yesterday, with more than 96% of the votes counted.. His nearest challenger, VicePresident Leni Robredo, had 14.5 million. Human RightsWatch has called for Marcos Jr to improve the human rights situation in the Philippines. Marcos Jr has refused to acknowledge and apologise for the massive human rights violations and plunder under his father’s strongman rule.
