Crash reports censored
American media reports that a Chinese passenger planewas ‘‘brought down from the cockpit’’, killing all 132 people on board, have been censored by Beijing. The China Eastern Boeing 737 crashed into amountainside near Wuzhou in March. Unnamed American officials have told TheWall Street Journal that data from the plane’s flight recorders, which were sent toWashington for analysis, showed that it had been forced deliberately into a nosedive, by either the pilot or an intruder in the cockpit. The newspaper is banned in China, but the authorities have taken the extra step of removing any reference to the article, including screenshots, from social media.
