■ Great opinion piece by Steve Stannard, Wednesday 18, on rates for larger sections. I am in the same situation, and the proposed rates rise is unsustaina­ble.

■ PNCC – proposed exorbitant rates increases are causingmuc­h stress and anxiety. Very depressing!

■ Response to texted criticism of PMby AL. It was a unanimous decision by Parliament not to address the rabble on Parliament grounds. Reason being the incoherent dysfunctio­nal lot with many hidden agendas and no specific spokespers­on to address. To confront would have set a dangerous precedent. HR

■ Well said, GaryWatson (Letters to the editor, May 19). Schooling is abysmal now, no basics taught!

■ Containers were used in Christchur­ch after the earthquake. There are hundreds piled up around the country that would be more robust than nice homes and motels that are getting wrecked by ungrateful people who have no decent living standards. As the saying goes, it’s easy to spend someone else’s money. This council needs to get back to basics and sort out core problems, not wastemoney on ridiculous projects. Tom
