Coll wins epic battle

Kiwi world squash No 1 Paul Coll triumphed in a two-hour marathon quarterfin­al to advance to the semifinals of the world championsh­ips. Coll won the epic match against Egyptian rival Tarek Momen 11-8 13-11 10-12 2-11 11-9 in Cairo yesterday. Coll, the current two-time British Open champion, will nowface either Mohamed ElShorbagy or Fares Dessouky, both from Egypt, in a semifinal tomorrow. ‘‘It was a tough match,’’ Coll said. ‘‘ Hewas taking me into all corners of the court andwasn’t missing. I’mjust very happy to clawmyway out of that one,’’ said the 30-year-old from Greymouth.
