Man in hospital
A man arrested as part of a crackdown on methamphetamine in Manawatū was in hospital after suffering a medical event. Six people arrested last Tuesday were due to appear in the Palmerston North District Court on Wednesday for alleged involvement in the meth trade. But only five were present in court on Wednesday. A police spokesperson said the sixth person, a male, was taken to hospital after being arrested. ‘‘During the arrest, officers recognised that a man needed medical attention to a medical event.’’ The exact nature of the medical event was not given due to privacy reasons, but Stuff understands it was not caused by any police actions. The man would face drug-related charges once medically cleared.
